STATEMENT OF THE ANC WL TO CONGRATULATE COMRADE MANTO TSHABALALA-MSIMANG

16 April 2008

The ANCWL received with joy, the news about the appointment of Comrade Manto Tshabala-Msimang as a mentor and goodwill ambassador for women and child health of Africa as recommended by the AU Chairperson during the Conference on maternal, neonatal and child mortality review. This really endorses South Africa as carrying nation indeed.

We also would want to take this opportunity and recognise her tireless efforts in ensuring that matters of health take a priority place in our country and we have no doubt that her work influences the rest of Africa. Some of the initiatives she took like that of embarking on Confidential Enquiries Into Maternal Deaths (1997-2007) joining the United Kingdom, we have no doubt that this program has reduce the maternal mortality rates of which mostly affects the poor and rural women.

The ANCWL would like once again to re-assure her of our undying support in her endeavours to make South Africa and the rest of Africa a better place to be.

MALIBONGWE!!!
