STATEMENT OF THE ANC WOMEN’S LEAGUE ON NATIONAL CONFERENCE  PREPARATIONS

4 March 2008

The ANC Women’s League has started preparing for its conference that will take place from 2-6 July 2008 in the Free State University, Mangaung Vista Campus. Four thousand delegates from branches, regions, provinces and the National Executive will gather to consolidate the gains we have made over the five past years.

Regions and provinces have already started preparing, through holding conferences. Two provinces have already had conferences and seven provinces will hold their conferences between the months of March, April and May.

The process of auditing branches will start immediately in provinces that are just about to hold their conferences and then thereafter the audit team will visit them so that they also get equal treatment for National Conference preparations.

The cut off date for recruitment of membership and launching of branches is 15 March 2008 and preliminary auditing of branches will take place on 27, 28, 29 and 30 March 2008 by National Audit Team.

A consolidated report of the audit will be presented to the NEC and then be sent to branches. Qualifying branches will then hold branch general meetings to discuss conference documents, elect delegates to the conference.

The policy subcommittee has started with the process of looking into last conference resolutions. The aim of this is to ensure that we firstly look at ways and strategies of consolidating the areas that we have been able to implement and those that have put the Women’s League at the centre of the struggle for women’s emancipation such as the formalisation of women’s movement, implementation of 50/50 and its entrenchment in the constitution of the ANC, the women’s ministry and other resolutions.
