16 October 2007
The ANC Women's League held its Special National Executive Committee meeting on the 15th October 2007 to consider preparations for the ANC 52nd National Conference. Amongst other things, the NEC received and discussed Electoral Guidelines as issued by the ANC 52nd National Conference Electoral Commission.
Based on these guidelines the NEC will await nominations from its provinces before making any decision or pronouncement on the ANC leadership choices. It is against this background that the ANC Women's League will like to distance itself from the article contained in the Business Day (16 October 2007) with a heading "ANC women pick Dlamini-Zuma to lead".
It is our view that reports of this nature are divisive and are not in the interest of building and strengthening the ANC. We condemn in the strongest possible terms sensational acts of faceless individuals who are always portrayed as "reliable" by the media.
The ANC Women's League will speak for itself once it has consolidated the provincial nominations. In the meantime we call on the media to be patient and give ANC structures space to choose leaders for themselves.
