12 October 2006
The African National Congress Women’s League condemns the brutal bloody killing of an innocent child, which was shot at the most comfortable zone of her mother in Johannesburg on Tuesday 10, October 2006. We wish to express our condolences to the Mbele family for the loss of their lovely baby.
ANCWL and women in general are disturbed by the growth of crime in South Africa.
We therefore, demand that the Department of Safety and Security should improve the systems of fighting crime in our country. In addition, the Department of Justice should see to it that these criminals get an effective sentence. We call on the police to be more efficient and visible in our areas, more especially because we are moving towards the festive season and we want to be safe in our country.
We further, call on our government to form a strong partnership with communities in combating crime. We need to declare this country a crime free zone. Many children and women are victims of crime, as mothers and nurturers of the nation we are tired of these brutal killings. We call upon all women to stand up and participate in Community Policing Forums and other related local structures to further strengthen our law enforcement systems, communities should not harbour criminals in their homes or accept their bribes, because the same criminals will turn violent against them.
We call upon all the people of South Africa, to please isolate criminals. Do not form friendships with them. We fought for our liberation and no one should terrorise us. We dare not allow our country to become a terrorist zone of criminals. Our struggle was a struggle for peace, comfort and security.
