ANC WOMEN'S LEAGUE IN SUPPORT OF THE SACCAWU STRIKE

It is with regret to realise that in South Africa; the democratic country; there are elements who do not want to contribute towards perfect transformation which we are all striving for.

The inhuman character of Shoprite/ Checkers by conducting;

• compulsory HIV tests to its employees
• reduction of service years and hourly rate pay of employees
• credit checks for their employability
• compulsory membership of the company's retirement fund; and
• further enforcing employees to purchase uniform and name badges from the company.

This clearly reflects the un-preparedness of Shoprite/ Checkers to ensure that employees are respected and accepted as a sector within business society.

As the ANC Women's League; we completely condemn that behaviour and attitude. We further wish to mention that; we unconditionally support the strike to address the above-mentioned matters.

We therefore call on all communities, especially women, as they are the majority employees in this company; to support in full the campaign against worker abuse.
