The ANC Women’s League will, as from tomorrow, hold a four-day Nation Consultative Conference in Johannesburg. This conference will be held between 11 and 14 October 2001 at Shaft 17 in Crown Mines on the South of Johannesburg.
The conference, which its theme is “Women Marching Together into the African Century”, will discuss challenges facing the organisation and broader women and their role in the transition towards the African Century.
The purpose of the consultative conference is to politically prepare the organisation for the national regular conference due to take place next year. The documents that will be discussed include among others, the Challenges facing the ANCWL, Towards a non-sexist South Africa, Status of the Women’s Movement, Challenges for the Women’s Economic Empowerment, Women challenges in the 21st Century, Organisational Democracy and Through the eye of the needle.
The conference will be attended by closed to 800 delegates from all structures of the women congress movement. Other invited guests will include International friends of the ANCWL, High Commissioners of various countries in South Africa and local sister organisations. Also in attendance will be the ANCWL veterans, ANC officials, ANCYL officials and ANC Ministers.
The conference will be officially opened from 12 October at 09h00 by the ANCWL President Cde Winnie Madikizela-Mandela and the keynote address will be delivered by the ANC Deputy President, Cde Jacob Zuma.

Members of the Media are further advised that, for administrative purpose, they should apply for their accreditation cards, as no person will be allowed in the conference venue without a nametag. Application may be made through Cde Eunice Martins before or during the conference.
Between 13h00 on the 12th until the midday of the 14th, the organisation will be discussing documents and shall spend time in commissions. As such, this session will be closed from the media.
The conference will be officially closed at 12h00 on the 14th by the ANCWL President, Cde Winnie Mandela.
