The Alliance gender structures, comprising of the ANC Women’s League, Cosatu’s Gender committee and SACP Women’s League met to discuss a number of issues including policy papers ahead of the upcoming policy conference, the Progressive Women’s Movement, working with the Women’s Ministry, and the Commission for Gender Equity, among other things.

Those who talk about the late Rev Motlalepula Chabaku only have good things to say about the woman who is described as an extremely caring and loving mother of her community. But her close friend in the ANCWL mama Lindi Myeza says the thing she will miss most were her jokes.

The ANC Women’s League wishes all the mothers of South Africa a happy and relaxing mother’s day this coming Sunday. Being a mother is one of the most difficult yet most important jobs in existence.
We are calling on all members of society, NGO's and other stakeholders to make inputs and have discussions around the document which will be discussed at the upcoming ANC policy conference in June. We are also calling on provinces to engage the document at their upcoming PGC’s and conferences and make inputs.
Gender issues affect all realms of society despite race, political affiliation and religion, this is why we want all South Africans to engage this document in a bid to improve the lives of South African women and get rid of the patriarchal society that still exists.
Women have played an important role in the liberation struggle as members of the ANC and allied organisations, as trade unionists and in other capacities. They carried on militant campaigns against the hated pass laws. They participated in the underground and armed struggle when that became indispensable. Many women suffered restriction, imprisonment, torture and even brutal assassination by the racist regime.
