Smangaliso Mkhatshwa's visit to Eersterust Police Station
Father
Smangaliso Mkhatshwa visited Eersterust Police Station today in order to
familiarise himself with the security situation in this area.
In
addressing the security problems of Eersterust such as housebreaking, car
hijackings and domestic violence he complimented the police station on their
hard work and efforts. He also emphasised the importance of community
participation and economic upliftment for the community
Father
Mkhatshwa said that it is important to realize that crime has become a symptom
of social decay and the only way to solve this problem would be through the
creation of economic prosperity for the whole region. The problem with this is
the fact that nog enough investment are flooding into the area and this again
can be blamed on the impression that the area has a high crime rate. In other
words - to solve the problem of a high crime rate one needs to address all three
aspects with the same vigour.
Father
Mkhatshwa also challenged the DA to lay out their plans for a Metro Police
Officer on every block. "This is empty words and cheap politicking. It is
the voter's right to know how their money will be spend."
In
conclusion Father Mkhatshwa supported the current initiatives of the Eersterust
community to build a new police station in order to enhance the safety situation
in the area.
