The ANC is a national liberation movement. It was formed in 1912 to unite the African people and spearhead the struggle for fundamental political, social and economic change.
The ANC's key objective is the creation of a united, non-racial, non-sexist and democratic society.
This means the liberation of Africans in particular and black people in general from political and economic bondage. It means uplifting the quality of life of all South Africans, especially the poor.
The ANC is in an alliance with the South African Communist Party (SACP) and the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU). Each Alliance partner is an independent organisation with its own constitution, membership and programmes. The Alliance is founded on a common commitment to the objectives of the National Democratic Revolution, and the need to unite the largest possible cross-section of South Africans behind these objectives.

The protest march to the Goodman Gallery called by the African National Congress (ANC) is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 29 May 2012.
All South Africans, members of the ANC and supports including our Alliance partners are requested to gather at Zoo Lake Park, Jan Smuts Avenue, Parkview in Johannesburg, from 9h00 and the march to the gallery will commence at 10h00.
The march called by the ANC is a protest against the continued display and exhibition in that gallery’s website of an insulting portrait of President Jacob Zuma. It is also meant to condemn the defacing of an ANC logo with an inscription "FOR SALE" and "SOLD" as it continue to be displayed in that Gallery.
We believe all these actions by the gallery are not only a violation of the right to dignity of cde President Jacob Zuma but are a clear and calculated attack on the ANC. We therefore again call on all South Africans, members and supports of the ANC and our Alliance Partners to come and register their outrage at this insult and attack on our President and the ANC.
