ANC-ANCYL statement on North-West

23 June 2009

The African National Congress (ANC) and the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) today (23 June 2009) held a brief consultative meeting at Luthuli House to clarify and correct an earlier position attributed to the ANCYL on the North West.

Contrary to an earlier position attributed to the ANCYL, Youth League President Julius Malema made it clear at the meeting that the ANCYL did not give a mandate to anyone to advocate for the disbandment of the North West Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) as earlier reported.

Both the ANC and the ANCYL share the view that at no stage did the recent visit to the province by National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ANC reflect on the disbandment of the PEC, other than a visit aimed at discussing the state of the organisation as well as to review results of the 2009 elections.
