ANC welcomes decision by Minister Ndebele

The ANC welcomes the decision by Transport Minister Sbu Ndebele to return the car and cattle given to him by contractors participating in the Vukuzakhe programme.
The ANC notes that there are specific rules in government guiding the receipt of gifts by members of the executive. These rules are intended to ensure transparency and guard against abuse of office.
The ANC advised Ndebele to follow these rules. It also advised him to exercise personal judgment on the matter.
Ndebele's decision to return the gifts provides a lead to other public representatives who may find themselves in a similar situation. It is important to cultivate an environment in which public representatives do not expect any special treatment for work well done.
