ANC mobilises a diverse Western Cape election team15 January 2008 The ANC has mobilised a diverse team of senior Western Cape cadres to win the provincial election. They will work under the overall direction of a National Executive Committee (NEC) team headed by Nomvula Mokonyane. The NEC team includes Jeremy Cronin, Pallo Jordan, Lindiwe Sisulu, Ayanda Dlodlo, Joe Paahla, Dina Pule and Tina Joemat-Pettersson. The ANC has appointed a Provincial Election Team, under the leadership of the Reverend Chris Nissen, to focus on the election campaign. It includes prominent trade unionists Tony Ehrenreich and Ebrahim Patel, Gwebs Nkonde from the SACP, Minister of Labour Membathisi Shepherd Mdladlana, Rose Sonto from SANCO and former national deputy police commissioner and head of the Shuttleworth Foundation, Zelda Holtzman. Both the Provincial Election Team (PET) and Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) led by Provincial Chairperson Mcebisi Skwatsha will be accountable to the NEC team. Addressing media in Cape Town today ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe said the PET would be responsible for elections while the PEC would focus on building the organisation. "We have assembled a collective with the capacity to reach out to all corners of the province, across urban and rural areas, economic sectors, languages, class and creed. The composition of the team showcases the diversity of the Western Cape," Mantashe said. This weekend a team of 800 volunteers would be assembled to begin rolling out the ANC programme throughout the province. Issued by: African National Congress Contact: Moloto Mothapo 082 370 6930
