The NEC of the ANC at its two monthly meeting reviewed the results of the 2009 election results and thanked the people of South Africa for providing the ANC with a decisive mandate to govern South Africa.

The NEC thanked the President of South Africa in particular for the tireless manner in which he led the campaign. The NEC paid tribute to thousands of volunteers who embarked on door to door work, motorcades and mobilised masses of people to attend mass rallies, house meetings, focus groups and attend public debates.

The NEC commends the collegiate and exceptional work done by COSATU and the SACP.

The Special Campaign led by the ANC Women’s League re-invigorated interest in the ANC Women’s League and the NEC will support the League in ensuring that issues facing women are kept on the agenda with a view to finding positive solutions thereto.

The creative Campaign led by the ANC Youth League which resulted in large numbers of young people giving their vote to the ANC was commended by the NEC.

The NEC agreed that the relationship and the structures that have developed at national level between the Alliance leadership needs to be replicated at provincial level. A meeting with the Alliance will be held in June to consolidate joint programmes of action going forward.

The leadership of the ANC at all levels were commended for a well-organised campaign.

The NEC reviewed the statistics as published by the IEC and decided that the ANC would continue with its programme to strengthen, branches, regional and provincial structures of the of the ANC. The ANC directed all provinces to plan programmes to give effect to the Siyabonga (THANKYOU) to the voters programme. More importantly, these meetings should also reiterate the priority programmes of the ANC. The ANC will embark on a concerted campaign to deepen partnerships with all sectors as an ongoing exercise in deepening both consultation on key strategic matters.

As a matter of urgency, all ANC branches are directed to establish street committees.

All branches of the ANC are directed to recruit members of the ANC and every member of the ANC is directed to recruit membership to comply with the decision agreed in Stellenbosh that the ANC have 1 million members by 2010, The NEC reiterated that a strong and well organised ANC on the ground was the best mechanism to defend the goals of our National Democratic Revolution.

The NEC decided that the organisation be a champion of the 2010 games.
Every branch of the ANC to be engaged in programmes to popularise the games and to ensure that every South African becomes a true host to the games.

On the issue of Moutse the preference of the ANC is that a mechanism be found to take the views of the people into account which will exclude a referendum.

The NEC will establish a team that will closely monitor the process.
The next NEC meeting will receive a report from the Moutse task team established and make final recommendation to the Government.

The NEC discussed the current status of provinces and agreed that an organisational review report be presented at the next NEC. The NWC was tasked with reviewing the specific situations exiting in the North West and the Western Cape and to make appropriate recommendations to the next NEC.

The NWC will visit the Eastern Cape, the North West and Western Cape before the end of July.

The NEC agreed that the process of renewal of the ANC will include deep levels of consultation with communities.

The NEC decided to launch a project on the renewal of both the organisation and government so that they can serve the people of our country better in their quest for an improved quality of life.

The NEC of July will discuss this programme in detail so that in the run up to the Centenary of the ANC in 2012 renewal becomes the central theme.

The NEC decided to establish an ANC 2012 Centenary Committee who will begin preparations for the celebration.

The priorities for the next 12 months are as follows:

Focus on the implementation of the ANC programme as contained in the national conference resolutions and the election manifesto.
Target to achieve 1 million members.
Return to the electorate to thank them for their vote
Build organisational capacity at all levels
Launch the policy institute within the next three months
Identify the site for the construction of an ANC political School
Establish a project team for the ANC Centenary preparations
Begin processes to engage on the preparations for the 2011 Local government election
Establish a monitoring and evaluation capacity with particular emphasis on the monitoring of the implementation of the manifesto
Strengthen the relationship between the ANC and the media in an ongoing attempt to turn the hostile stance of the media towards the ANC to a healthy critical stance

Mr. Vali Moosa at his request has been relieved of all NEC duties and responsibilities for as long as he holds his post as Chair of Sun International.

The NEC co-opted Ellen Nana Molekane, Salome Sithole, Kgomotso “Bushy” Magau to the ANC NEC.
