Media statement on reports on Former President Mandela and ANC Rally

The ANC has noted reports in a couple of newspapers about the attendance of former ANC President Nelson Mandela at the launch of the ANC's 2009 election manifesto.
The ANC did not expect Mandela to attend the ANC events in the Eastern Cape this weekend.
He has repeatedly stated that he is a loyal member of the ANC, but he is now retired, and we do not expect him to be active at the age of 90.
He has sent a message of support that will be read out at the ANC's 97th anniversary celebrations in East London on Saturday.
