ACTION NOT PROMISES - THE NP PLAN

Local Government is the backbone of the society - It is in the suburbs of our cities and towns where the real interests of residents have to be met in order to enhance the quality of life in all communities. It is therefore imperative that the local government especially should be by the people for the people - residents should be meaningfully involved in decision- making. This is the core of the NP Local Government Plan.

We believe in the New South Africa -

The NP initiated the new political dispensation in our country, and is adamant that it should succeed.
The NP supports high standards, effective & efficient local government as well as safety and security for all - action is needed now.

We support the RDP -

The NP supports the basic principle of the RDP.
Time for empty talk is over - practical and sustainable results are required now.
Others make promises - only the NP can deliver. We will ensure strong and consistent economic growth -
Dynamic growth is required for sustained socio-economic development - the RDP and other plans cannot succeed without a vibrant economy.
The free market and private enterprise is the only viable path to ongoing economic progress.
Experiments with outdated socialism will only lead to disaster.

Good local government -

The NP believes in effective and efficient local government which will ensure:

Safety and security immediately
Sound financial management and control
Imaginative urban planning
Efficient transport services
Affordable rates and taxes
Payment for services by all
Adequate social services
Appropriate infrastructure
Preserving and improving residential areas. Transparency and accountability is a prerequisite

NP representatives will:

be experienced and well qualified
serve your interests
ensure that your rates and taxes are spent cost-effectively
act transparently
report back regularly Our people need safety and security now -
The NP demands that law and order should be restored urgently
Foreigners will not invest in an unstable country.
Well equipped local police forces must be established.
The number of policemen/women must be increased and well paid.

Health care needs a transplant -

Adequate and affordable health care is essential.
The deterioration of health services in Gauteng must be stopped.
Prevent major health catastrophes - vote NP.

We care about the environment -

Littering of our cities and towns must be prevented.
Our parks must be preserved and upgraded.
Open spaces must be developed for recreation.
Rivers and other natural resources must be saved for future generations.

The youth need a vision for the future -

The NP strongly believes in the promotion of a family and community values.
We will ensure a proper education with career prospects for the youth.

Senior Citizens need special care -

Senior citizens deserve safety and security, peace of mind and a caring environment.
Where applicable services such as housing, health and transport should be subsidised.

We care about the disabled -

Town planning must ensure that the interests and needs of the disabled are taken into account at all times.
These citizens must be able to travel, work and relax in a user-friendly environment - promoting their dignity throughout.

Arts, culture and sport is a priority -

The NP believes in the dynamic promotion of the arts and culture.
The enhancement of sporting opportunities for all is essential.
