TRANSVAAL AGRICULTURAL UNION TO BOYCOTT ELECTIONS

The Transvaal Agricultural Union would not participate in the
November 1 local government elections, SABC radio news reported on
Friday.

The union said the proposed 10 percent representation for
farmers in local government structures was unacceptable. The union
demanded 50 percent.

It had not nominated candidates for the elections and no
political party could act as a mouthpiece for farmers.
