MEYER URGES VOTERS TO REGISTER BEFORE SEPT 25 PIETERSBURG Sept 21 Sapa People who had not registered for November's local government elections by September 25 would not be allowed to vote, Constitutional Development and Provincial Affairs Minister Roelf Meyer said on Thursday. Speaking in Pietersburg after a tour of areas in Northern Province, he said: "Government has instituted the supplementary voters' roll to give all South Africans the opportunity to register and to be able to vote. "We urge all to register within their local transitional council or district board areas. This will be their final opportunity to register, while people who have registered should also make sure that their names and correct information are reflected on the existing voters' rolls." Meyer said he was pleased and impressed by the areas he had visited. All reports indicated the elections would run smoothly in Northern Province. He admitted that the task of keeping voters' rolls up to date in the various districts was enormous, as there were about 1.8 million voters in the vast rural areas of the province.
