GAUTENG CABINET EXTENDS LOCAL GOVERNMENT DEADLINE Issued by: Gauteng Provincial Government Gauteng's Provincial Cabinet has extended the deadline for the submission of party registration applications for the November local government elections. At its meeting in Johannesburg today (Wednesday), Cabinet extended the deadline for submitting party registrations and nominating ward candidates to 12h00 on Friday 15 September. The extension of the deadline has been effected in terms of regulation 100A (1) of the Local Government Transitional Election Regulations. A notice to this effect will be published in the Provincial Gazette. The provincial government encourages political parties to make use of the extra time to finalise their party lists and ensure their speedy submission to the relevant local authorities. We believe this extension will eliminate some of the problems which have been experienced so far, and will ensure that the key dates for the election process are immediately co-ordinated and synchronised on a provincial level. In addition, it will ensure co-ordinated progress towards the two key dates for the election: Nomination Day on 22 September, and Election Day on 1 November.
