GAUTENG EXTENDS CANDIDATE DEADLINE FOR LOCAL GOVT ELECTIONS

JOHANNESBURG Sept 12 Sapa

The Gauteng local government and housing department on Tuesday
extended the deadline for candidate nominations and registrations
for the November 1 local government elections.

The department said n a statement in Johannesburg the
extension was agreed to at a provincial multiparty liaison
committee meeting on Monday night.

"It (the extension) is a way of ensuring that all political
parties are accommodated in an all-inclusive manner in the election
process."
