Voter registration in the Eastern Cape would be reopened
between Tuesday and September 25, MEC for housing and local
government Max Mamase said on Monday.

In a statement from Bisho, he said a mix-up between officials
had led to contradictory information to local authorities, but they
had since been correctly informed.

Mamase said he understood the strain it placed on some
authorities, but the province supported a national decision to
extend registration and get as many voters registered as possible.

Ariana, Afghanistan's national air carrier, resumed flights
into Kabul's combined military and civilian airport earlier this
year.

The bloody civil war in Afghanistan had virtually closed the
airport for nearly three years. It opened last March after
President Burhanuddin Rabbani's forces pushed rivals out of firing
range of the city.

There is only one major highway in Afghanistan and giant
sections of it have been destroyed in the war, leaving air
transportation as one of the few options in the war-ravaged
country.
