Supplementary Voters Rolls Issued by: Gauteng Provincial Government Gauteng Local Government and Housing Minister Dan Mofokeng would like to announce that the compilation of Supplementary Voters Roll begins tomorrow 11/09/195 until midnight of the 24/09/1995. "This is an effort to give another change to the six million south Africans who for some reason could not register as voters to ensure that their names appear on the supplementary voters rolls of their respective wards. The auteng Government would like to encourage everyone in the province to re-check and make sure that their names are on the supplementary voters rolls if they are not on the voters rolls that have already been compiled. "This is a call in which we appeal to all our people who have furnished incomplete addresses and identification numbers in the previous registration period to furnish correct and complete ID numbers. Local authorities have been instructed to ensure that registration points are made known to the public as a matter of urgency. A number of problems could be overcome if there is very localised further registration. Among them are: - The process for displaying and inspecting voters rolls has not been accessible to most voters and in some areas mistakes were found on the roll. - Possible conflict, tension and violence around voting stations on election day will be minimised if very few voters are turned away for not registering before hand. Another reason for ensuring that the supplementary voters roll is compiled is to ensure that: - The roll should be as local as possible, preferably at potential voting stations. - New names will have to be checked against the central roll for possible duplication. - Supplementary registration should be allowed as close to the elections as possible and that it should be accompanied by widespread publicity. - Supplementary voters rolls will not affect the present delimitation of wards and the nominations of candidates and party lists. This means that anyone that failed to register during the second round of registration that ended on the 5th of June 1995 cannot be appointed or nominated as a candidate or be placed on the party list.
