GREATER PTA NP SELECTS CANDIDATES FOR NOVEMBER 1 ELECTION PRETORIA Sept 2 Sapa The Greater Pretoria National Party has chosen its candidates for the November 1 local government election, the party said in a statement on Saturday. Spokeswoman Annelize van Wyk said the team of more than 100 candidates were decided through a process of electoral colleges that took place over two weeks. "Candidates that were elected are representative of the total support base of the NP in the Pretoria region. Women are also very well represented on the candidate list," she said. Van Wyk said the NP realises that in Greater Pretoria it would have to fight the whole spectrum of political parties. "We are the common opponent of the African National Congress as well as the parties to the right of the spectrum. We are ready, able and willing. The race has started and the NP is going for gold." She added that during the 1994 general election the majority of people in Pretoria voted for the NP. "We intend to keep it that way. After November 1 Pretoria will again be national," van Wyk said.
