NORTH-WEST SPELLS OUT ELECTION QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates who were three months behind in rental arrears would
be disqualified from standing in the forthcoming local government
elections, the African National Congress in North-West said on
Thursday.

Chief whip Joe Selau said in a statement this was one of the
qualifications adopted at a caucus meeting in Klerksdorp earlier in
the week.

He said civil servants were allowed stand in the elections
provided they obtained permission from their departments and their
participation did not affect their departments negatively.
