STATEMENT ON THE PREPAREDNESS OF GAUTENG TO DELIVER THE UPCOMING MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS. The Gauteng Cabinet has approved the Demarcation Board report on the delimitation of wards in the various local authorities in the province. This initiative puts the region in a better than ever position to deliver the elections as announced by President Nelson Mandela on the 1st of November 1995. In an effort to maximise consultation, the Demarcation Board once again embarked on an extensive consultation process. A media campaign which informed interested parties and persons to venues where seatings of the Board would be held were publicised. Several deliberations and submissions were heard and the Boards decision has been approved by the cabinet. This brings the mammoth task of the Demarcation Board to an end; and the beginning of the next phase of the elections. Political Parties and independents can now be in a position to know in which wards they will contest the elections. Meanwhile people that have registered as voters will also be in a position to identify the wards they belong to. An exhaustive voter education campaign has begun. So far more than one hundred voter education officials have been trained in Johannesburg, Vaal and Pretoria; many more are under going training in other places in th province.
