Local government poll day may be proclaimed public holiday:

Cabinet is to be asked to proclaim the day set for local
government polls - November 1 - a public holiday, according to
Provincial Affairs and Constitutional Development Minister Roelf
Meyer on Thursday.

He told Parliament's joint constitutional affairs committee the
proposal, which would go before Cabinet next week, had been put
forward by Local Government MECs at an inter-governmental meeting
on Tuesday.
