TAU urges members not to take part in local elections PRETORIA Aug 11 Sapa The Transvaal Agricultural Union would dissuade its members from participating in November's local government elections, it said on Friday. In a statement in Pretoria TAU president Dries Bruwer said it was of no use for farmers to take part in a system which gave power to "incompetent persons to decide over the farmers' weal and woe". Farmers were not prepared to be financially ruined in addition to not having a say in how they were to be taxed, nor in how their taxes were spent, he said. Great confrontation could be avoided by not forcing farmers into a system which they opposed, he added.
