South Africa not ready for local elections: CP PRETORIA July 27 Sapa Even though most South African voters knew the country was not ready for local government elections on November 1 the government seemed determined to push ahead, the Conservative Party said in a statement in Pretoria. CP spokesman Paul Fouche said the cabinet's decision to let provinces which were ready go ahead with elections while granting problem areas an extension, proved the government's disrespect for the constitution. "The chaos which prevailed during last year's April 27 general elections will be repeated in the forthcoming elections." He called on all supporters of an independent boer-Afrikaner republic to back the CP because the party's focus in the elections was to determine support for the concept.
