Morkel Signs Provincial Election Proclamation
CAPE TOWN, 14 April 1999 SapaWestern Cape premier Gerald Morkel on Wednesday signed a proclamation setting June 2 as the election date for the provincial legislature, his office said.
His signing of the proclamation means that the 80,61 percent of potential voters who had registered in the province would be able to take part in the forthcoming election, it said in a statement.
Earlier on Wednesday, President Nelson Mandela signed a proclamation confirming June 2 as the date for South Africa's second democratic general election.
