SAM ZWANE

ANC LOCAL COUNCIL CANDIDATE - MANDENI KWAZULU NATAL

SAM ZWANE, ANC executive mayor candidate for the Mandeni Local Council, has a long involvement in the struggle for worker rights and for peace in KwaZulu Natal.

Zwane was born in 1961 in Mahlabatini an began his working life as an apprentice at the Pan African Shop Fitters in Johannesburg. From 1986 to 1994 he served the Paper Printing, Wood and Allied Workers Union as an organiser, and was a member of its National Executive Committee from 1987 to 1994.

From 1994-96 he was a Peace Monitor in the Northern Natal Region, and ANC spokesperson on violence and peace initiatives in Mandeni up until 1998.

He was elected Mayor of Mandeni in 1996.
