SATURDAY, MAY 1:

KIMBERLEY: ANC Secretary-General, Kgalema Motlanthe addresses Worker's Day Rally (10am) (Galeshewe Stadium, Kimberley)

Cosatu will convene 10 May Day rallies throughout the province at which ANC and alliance speakers will speak.

The main rally will take place at the Lentegeur Sports Complex, Mitchells Plain and will be addressed by ANC President Thabo Mbeki, Ebrahim Rasool, Nosipho Ntwanambi and Ebrahim Patel. Other rallies to be held are ;

Most of these events will commence at 10h00 and include cultural items.

MONDAY, MAY 3

Cut-off date for submission of list of nominated candidates (to the chief electoral officer) by registered parties that intend to contest the elections. The commission must prescribe the voting hours for the elections.

TUESDAY, MAY 4

Youth sector Forum meeting, 7pm, 4/5/99, Speakers: Malusi Gigaba, Youth League President, Kholeka Mqulwana, Angus McKenzie, Pierre Gerber at NUMSA offices in Kasselsvlei Road, Bellville South

At 12h35, UCT, Philip Dexter speaks at a student meeting. Venue still to be confirmed.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 5

The chief electoral officer must notify a registered party that has submitted a list of candidates in terms of section 27, but has not fully complied with that section, of non-compl non-compliance.

Women's sector forum meeting, 19h00, at Shawco Hall, Halt Road, Elsies River. Speaker will be Gertrude Fester

ANC Western Cape has invited a wide range of religious leaders to a summit at Spier. Ebrahim Rasool will deliver the keynote address after introductions and opening prayer which will commence at 09h00.

THURSDAY, MAY 6

A people's forum will be held at the Bishop Lavis community Hall, at 19h00. Speakers will be Patrick McKenzie and Pierre Gerber.

FRIDAY, MAY 7

Last day for the notified party to comply with section 27 requirements.

MONDAY, MAY 10

May 10 to May 12 Copies of lists of candidates and accompanying documents submitted by registered parties, are available for inspection. The chief electoral officer is to determine the boundary of every voting station.

The chief electoral officer must give notice of the route of mobile voting stations, if used, including locations and estimated times of stopping of each station. List of addresses of voting stations are available for inspection.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 12

Cut-off date for objections tte for objections to a candidate by any person, including the chief electoral officer.

THURSDAY MAY 13

Application to local electoral officer for special votes by physically infirm or disabled or pregnant people to vote in or outside voting district where registered. Also, application to presiding officer for special votes by reason of physical infirmity or disability or pregnancy, only to vote in voting district where registered.

Those in government service abroad or members of their household and those registered on the voters' roll but absent from the country on June 2 through employment, business or study commitments, may apply for and cast special votes at South African missions abroad between 7am and 9pm.

Election officers and security services members deployed for the elections, as well as those registered on the voters' roll but absent from the South Africa on June 2 through employment, business or study commitments, can apply for and cast special votes in the dist the districts where they are registered between 7am and 9pm.

Those who, as a result of employment, business or study commitments or close family or personal trauma, will be unavoidably and unforeseeably absent from their voting districts on June 2, will be able to apply for a certificate to vote elsewhere by declaration vote, between 7am and 9pm.

The ANC will hold a massive rally at Kings Park Rugby stadium starting at 10h00. This last Rally in KwaZulu-Natal before June 2 election will be addressed by President Nelson Mandela and ANC President Thabo Mbeki. 

Rally goers will be entertained by artists such as Boom Shaka, Twins, Mffaz,omnyama, Abagqobhi, Zulu Cowboy and Amandla Cultural Ensemble.

The ANC in the North-West province will hold a SIYAQOBA rally at Pampierstad stadium in Taung starting at 10h00. Speakers Popo Molefe and Blace Nzimande

 

 

SUNDAY, MAY 30

The ANC will hold a Sonqoba Rally  at the FNB Stadium starting at 10h00. This last Rally before the June 2 election will be addressed by  ANC President Thabo Mbeki.

MONDAY, MAY 31

COUNTRYWIDE: IEC officials conduct special votes among the sick and the infirm, disabled, pregnant women, patipregnant women, patients and the aged in old age homes and frail care centres

COUNTRYWIDE: Special voters go to the polls, including people who will be absent from SA on government service, elections officials and security services personnel on election duty, holidaymakers, students and business people who will be absent from SA on voting day

COUNTRYWIDE: Applications for declaration votes to vote on June 2 (people who will be unavoidably absent on election day from voting district in which he/she registered to enable him/her to vote at any voting station in SA)
