ANC launches weekly comic series

African National Congress , 17 Mar 2009

The African National Congress has today (17 March 2009) launched a weekly comic series that will appear in the Daily Sun newspaper every Tuesday until the end of April.

The comic series is the latest in a number of platforms that portray the lives of ordinary South Africans. It will look at what has been achieved since the dawn of democracy, but also what still needs to be done, and the challenges that people face.

The stories follow our leader character, Mhambi, 34, and his family and friends as they go about their everyday lives.

In the first of the series, Mhambi’s friend, Vusumuzi, is looking for a new job. They talk about how the economy has improved and new jobs have been created. But, they say, unemployment remains a major problem. Many people are still without work.

They are worried about the effects of the global economic crisis, and discuss what the ANC will do to continue to create jobs and build the economy.

The comic series acknowledges that while South Africans have achieved much, there is a lot more that still needs to be done. Working together, it says, we can do more.

The ANC hopes that this series will stimulate debate about the challenges facing the country, and what South Africans can do, working together, to meet these challenges.
