ANC Satisfied with Bi-elections results

Jessie Duarte, 5 Mar 2009

The African National Congress (ANC) is satisfied with the results of
yesterday's by-elections in which it retained all but one of the seats it
won in the 2006 local government elections.

While by-election results are not considered to be a reliable indicator of
broader trends, the ANC is pleased that its average share of the vote across
all 21 by-elections is higher than in the last round of by-elections in
January.

With the exception of Ward 3 in Imbabazane in KwaZulu Natal, which the ANC
lost by 25 votes, the ANC won in all the wards it held previously.

The ANC will build on the campaign work done in all these wards, to ensure
that it consolidates its support and increases its share of the vote in
these areas in the national and provincial elections on 22 April Back to top
