ANC statement on the apology by Mbhazima Shilowa

25 November 2008

The African National Congress (ANC) has noted an apology by Mbhazima Shilowa on behalf of Anele Mda and Willie Madisha.

We appreciate that Shilowa has made a public apology to the ANC on the derogatory and defamatory statements made by Mda and Madisha. While we accept the apology, we also hope that the new political entity stops insinuations by Terror Lekota and Barney Pityana that cast aspersions on ANC President Jacob Zuma.

The ANC maintains that hate speech cannot be allowed to be disguised as free speech, which is protected in our Constitution.
