ANC mourns the death of Dirk du Toit

The African National Congress (ANC) is deeply saddened to learn of the death of the Former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Land Affairs Advocate Dirk du Toit.

Dirk Cornelis du Toit has been the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Land Affairs of the Republic of South Africa since June 17, 1999 and a Member of Parliament since 1994. He was cconsidered an expert in Legal Hermeneutics, Constitutional Law & Administrative Law and was also intimately involved in the drafting of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa (1996).

He was admitted as an Attorney of the Supreme Court of South Africa in 1969, and become a Lecturer at the then University of Orange Free State (UOFS) in 1970 and held several positions there. Dirk also made his contribution to the National Educational Health and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU) in 1992 as the Union Legal Advisor.

His untimely death has robbed South Africa of one of the exceptional academic and politician who contributed immensely to the liberation of South Africa.

The ANC will forever treasure the contribution made by Cde Dirk in the struggle for liberation and the building of our democracy.

Cde Dirk is survived by his wife and two daughters.

The ANC extends condolences to his family, friends and relatives.

May his soul rest in peace.
