ANC to host MDM Summit, 13-14 September 2008

11 September 2008

The African National Congress (ANC) is hosting a summit of organisations within the broad democratic movement on 13-14 September 2008 at Esselen Park Conference Centre in Ekurhuleni.

The summit will be attended by over 300 delegates, representing the ANC`s Alliance partners and various civil society organisations. These include representatives of women, students, youth, the religious community, rural groups, professionals, and others.

ANC President Jacob Zuma will be presenting a keynote address, followed by commissions to discuss issues like economic development, creation of decent work, tacking poverty, health, education, and crime.

The summit, which takes place in the year of the 25th anniversary of the United Democratic Front (UDF), will develop a common platform and broad programme of action for democratic transformation. It aims to strengthen the forms of progressive activism that played such an important role in uniting South Africans behind the struggle for democracy.

The summit follows decisions of the ANC 52nd National Conference in Polokwane in December 2007 that the ANC needs to engage more actively with all sectors of society and to build a broad front of organisations committed to the goal of a better life for all.
