ANC expels councillors in Breedevallei Municipality

6 November 2008

The ANC`s National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal (NDCA) yesterday (5 November 2008) confirmed the decision of the Western Cape disciplinary committee to expel three councillors in the Breedevallei Municipality from the organisation with immediate effect.

The three councillors - Luvuyo Kelepu, Freddie Speelman and Bettie Fortuin - were last month found guilty by the ANC Western Cape disciplinary committee for signing a motion of no-confidence in the ANC leadership in the municipality, acting in collaboration with opposition parties.

As public representatives, the councillors had a right of automatic appeal to the NDCA under the ANC Constitution.

After hearing the matter yesterday, the NDCA upheld the decision of the provincial disciplinary committee and ruled that the three be expelled from the ANC with immediate effect.

The ANC will not hesitate to act against any public representatives or members who flagrantly and deliberately violate the ANC Constitution or the decisions of its constitutional structures.
