General opening Remark

We really are inheriting a mess. Many years of NP rule has left us with huge social and economic problems. But the ANC does have a plan to change the lives for the people of Ennerdale and build a better life.

But we will have to work together. We can bring changes. The ANC together with the people of Ennerdale can start to tackle these problems. The ANC want to work with the people, The ANC is the home for the people of Ennerdale.

President Mandela said clearly in the Western Cape a week ago.

The ANC is the home for the coloured people. The coloured people has stood for justice and equality. Having struggled for so long together with the ANC, how can the organisation now abondon the coloured people.

The ANC wants to ensure that justice and opportunities will exist for the coloured people.

1. Transport and the Toll road

We recognise that when many of the townships were establised, little thought was given to the planning, particularly the matter of transport. Even today, we do not have adequate public transport and are totally dependent on the taxis.

The ANC will encourage the Johannesburg City Council to look into this issue on transport. It will be important for the community look into vialbe ways in which better and cheaper transport is made available.

We will have to work together on this issue.

2. Hospital and health Care

At the moment the NP government is spending R23 billion on health, yet we the problem where there is no hospital in Ennerdale. It is clear that the NP have made a mess.

It is part of the ANC plan to make sure that our local communities have the hospital and clinic facilities that are necessary.

Our plan is to ensure that the health needs of Ennerdale are met. Together with the community we can change this. The ANC is committed to a quality health for the people of Ennerdale.

3. Unemployment

We know this is a big problem. This is the country's biggest problem and the ANC has a plan to tackle unemployment. See job creation section.

4. Religion

The constitution which the ANC negotiated respects religion. Christians Muslims will be allowed to freely practice their religion. The ANC will protect people's right to worship.

5. Pensions.

Everyone's pension is secure. We believe our grandfathers and grandmothers should grow old in dignity. We are aware that many people have to support their families on the pensions. The ANC government is committed to decent pension and no one need fear that anything will happen to their pensions.

6. Affirmative action

By this we mean that all people, including the coloured people who have been discriminated against should benefit from affirmative action. But we also want our women to have more opportunities as well as those who are disabled.

So affirmative action is our plan to put things right for our people who have been discriminated. In Afrikaans affirmative action means " regstellings aksie "
