The ANC calls on all employers to respect tomorrow's election day public holiday, and ensure that their workers will be able to vote.
The ANC congratulates South Africans for the manner with which they have conducted themselves in the run up to the general elections tomorrow. This augurs well for free, fair and peaceful elections; the results of which will be a true reflection of the will of all our people.
As we approach this important day, the ANC calls upon fellow South Africans to come out in large numbers to exercise their democratic right of casting their ballots. We urge our people not to take this hard-won right for granted. Hence we appeal to everyone to ensure that they cast their votes in an atmosphere of peace and fairness.
The ANC believes that the IEC, the political parties and other interest parties have done everything to ensure a smooth running of the elections.
It is against this backdrop that the ANC appeals to employers to allow their employees to vote tomorrow as anything else will be denying these workers their right to contribute in shaping the future of our country.
A special plea goes out to farmers and retailers as these are two of the sectors that have hitherto seen some employers denying workers the opportunity to participate in a democratic process. We are confident that a true South African patriotic spirit will prevail throughout the election period and beyond and our country will remain a shining light of democracy.
