ANC CONDEMNS NORTHERN CAPE INCIDENT

14 March 2009

The African National Congress unconditionally condemns the scuffle that broke out at an SABC radio debate in Kuruman in the Northern Cape yesterday (13 March 2009).

The incident, in which ANC and COPE supporters reportedly threw chairs at each other, is shameful and a disgrace.

The ANC will take the strongest action possible against any of its members found to have actively participated in this incident.

The ANC is committed to the peaceful conduct of the election campaign. It calls on all its members and supporters not to engage in any acts of intolerance or violence, even when provoked.
