12 June 2008
The African National Congress is deeply shocked at the knife attack on ANC Western Cape Provincial Secretary Mcebisi Skwatsha today (12 June 2008).
Skwatsha was stabbed in the neck at a meeting in the Boland region.
The meeting was being held following the earlier decision of the Western Cape ANC to suspend the Boland regional executive for defiance of provincial directives on municipal matters.
The ANC welcomes the arrest of the perpetrators, and urges that those responsible be prosecuted without delay.
There is no place in the ANC for behaviour of this nature, and no place in the ANC for people who commit such acts.
Skwatsha has been admitted to hospital. The ANC national office is presently awaiting further information on his condition.
