UPDATE ON ALLIANCE SUMMIT

30 April 2008 The national leadership of the African National Congress (ANC), South African Communist Party (SACP), Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) will meet in an Alliance Summit on 9-11 May 2008.

The Summit, the first since 2005, will focus on the priorities, policies and programmes of each of the components of the Alliance, and identify both areas of agreement and divergence. The Summit aims to produce a common programme of action that will be implemented by all Alliance structures working together.

Following the clear mandate from Polokwane the Summit will signal a new era of improved relations and more effective cooperation within the Alliance.

The Summit is expected to further strengthen the Alliance as the leading force for progressive change in South Africa, capable of mobilising the masses of our people to be their own liberators.
