ANC PRESIDENT MEETS POLITICAL LEADERS IN GERMANY

African National Congress President Jacob Zuma led an ANC delegation in a four-party dialogue in Berlin, Germany today (Monday 21 April 2008).

The 'Four Party Dialogue: Common IBSA-German approaches to Global Challenges' was organised by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) and hosted by the German Social Democratic Party (SPD). It included representatives of the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Workers’ Party (PT) of Brazil. Issues discussed included a new détente policy in international affairs, political challenges for the Left worldwide, and climate and energy policy.

Zuma arrived in the German capital yesterday, where he held a meeting with SPD President Kurt Beck.

The ANC delegation includes ANC Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, Treasurer General Mathews Phosa, Head of International Relations Ebrahim Ebrahim and NEC member Maite Nkoane-Mashabane.

Zuma will this evening address a meeting of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), called the 7th FES-SWP North South Dialogue, under the theme "Beyond Heiligendamm: the G8, emerging powers and Global Security Governance".

The delegation will travel to London tomorrow afternoon, where they will hold meetings with various business leaders, opinion makers and civil society representatives. Zuma is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
