ANC STATEMENT ON ZILLE AND THE KHAMPEPE REPORT

28 March 2008

The ANC dismisses as nonsensical statements by Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Helen Zille that the Presidency's refusal to release the Khampepe Report was due to some "internal battle raging within the ANC".

This is a complete fiction.

At best, it shows Zille to have an overactive political imagination; at worst, a cynical disregard for the truth.

For the DA, it does not matter what the reality is. What matters to the DA is finding opportunities to present its particular tale of the relationship between the ANC and its deployees in government.

In stark contrast to what Zille's claims, the ANC-led government is intensifying its efforts to meet the needs of the South African people unimpeded. It does so guided by the resolutions of the ANC's Polokwane Conference, and supported by the structures of the ANC at all levels.

The DA has every right to pursue whatever legal channels exist to gain access to this report. But they shouldn't expect the South African people to believe the fables they tell along the way.
