The South African Student's Congress (SASCO) is saddened by the untimely death of one of the icon of our liberation struggle, cde Dumisani Makhaye. On behalf of millions of students in our country, we dip our revolutionary banners in respect of this hero who has sacrificed time in his life, his family and friends for the love of his people.
His tireless work in a struggle to liberate South Africa has helped bear the fruits of freedom which many of us enjoy today. It is through his hard work together with his comrades that today the people of KwaZulu Natal are liberated.
As we pay our last respects and celebrate the life of this departed hero, we celebrate the immortal soul of a true patriot. Dumisani Makhaye was with no doubt one of the most outstanding cadres of our movement, and indeed his passing away closes an important chapter in the circles of the liberation movement and in particular his family and friends.
If we feel the sense of loss so much, we understand how much the family grieves on losing a pillar of strength. We are saying found farewell to another human being, a leader of our liberation movement. At this moment of parting many of us will remember many little things about Cde Makhaye that constituted part of the composite picture that makes up the biography of the deceased. The biography we will write in our hearts and minds will tell the story of a true cadre of courage.
It will convey the reality of the man of action and speak to us of a brilliant cadre, a patriot and paint a picture of a person of loyalty to his cause, his principles and his friends.
To the Makhaye family and friends, SASCO would like to say, do not weep, do not mourn and do not clothe yourselves in garments of grief. Do not impose on yourselves the attitude of pathos that speaks of an adored object forever lost. Do not agree that death has proved that it is the arbiter.
As we all know that his spirit will live amongst us, his spirit will impel us consistently to honour what he stood for in our country and we know that the lasting example of selfless dedication set by Dumisani will continue to inspire generations to come in our country
May his soul rest in peace.
