ANC STATEMENT ON ITS 90TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

It's all systems go for the African National Congress' 90th Anniversary Celebration. The event, scheduled to take place at Durban's Absa Stadium on Sunday (January 6, 2002), will be graced by the presence of dignitaries from the African continent and other countries around the globe which stood by the ANC during the fierce struggle against apartheid.

The ANC was founded almost 90 years ago to unite the people in the struggle for the creation of a united, non-racial, non-sexist, democratic and prosperous South Africa. On the 8th of January 2002, this movement of the people - the ANC - will be reaching exactly the 90th year of the unbroken struggle for a better life for our people.

The main national event is one of many scheduled to take place throughout the year (see At the event there will also be performances by well-known local artists like Gospel Queen, Rebecca Malope, Avante, maskanda singer Phuzekhemisi, Durban's own basest Sipho Gumede and Bongo Maffin, among others.

Through years of hardship, amid numerous setbacks, but thanks to the sacrifice of countless patriots, we have together defeated the forces of racial oppression and ushered in a new era of peace, democracy and reconstruction.

The ANC has always been a movement for the liberation of all the peoples of Africa, including South Africa. Loyal to this tradition, the ANC is convinced that Africa's time has come hence our theme for the 90th Anniversary will be Afrika ke Nako!!
