ANC STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF GOVAN MBEKI

The African National Congress is deeply saddened by the loss of Govan Mbeki, a stalwart of the struggle for national liberation.

We extend to his family, friends and comrades heartfelt condolences.

A teacher, a writer, a singer, a leader and an unwavering revolutionary, Oom Gov will be remembered as one of the finest South African thinkers of this century. His insights, his commitment to his people and his dedication to the liberation of all Africans will be sorely missed at a moment in South Africa's history when such qualities are much needed.

The South African people have today lost a father. Hamba Kahle Qabane.
