Issued by African National Congress KZN
27 June 2000
The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has received with shock the passing away of one of the most popular radio personalities, Mr Douglas "Magayazidlele" Mfeka.
Magaya, as was popularly known by the then Radio Zulu - now Ukhozi FM - listeners, became an outstanding broadcaster in Community Development, Cultural and Entertainment Radio Programmes. Being a teacher-turned radio announcer, he became an inspiration through radio educational discussions.
Dougy Mfeka displayed his dedication to the upliftment of black people during very difficult times of the apartheid rule when SABC radio stations were used to propagate the policies of the oppressive Nationalist Party regime.
The ANC conveys its heartfelt condolences to the Mfeka family and all Ukhozi FM listeners. Magaya will be sadly missed and will go down in the history of broadcasting as one of the greatest entertainers of our time.
May his soul rest in peace. LALA KAHLE MZIMELA!!!
