ANC INTERVENTION BRINGS NEW HOPE FOR AN END TO TRANSPORT CRISIS

After a five hour meeting convened by the ANC all stakeholders committed themselves to a lasting solution to the public transport crisis affecting commuters. The meeting was attended by the following roleplayers ;

CODETA
Golden Arrow
Cosatu and TGWU
Provincial Department of Transport
Taxi registrar
SANCO

The following agreements were made :

1. All parties agreed to the immediate normailization of the public transport services

2. All parties welcomed the ANC document and agreed to use it as a basis for a lasting solution to the crisis and further agreed to further discuss the document at the next meeting

3. All parties agreed that the interests of commuters should be placed first

4. All parties agreed to cease acts of violence and intimidation, including the taxi organizations

5. In regard to the interdict, Golden Arrow and the taxi organizations committed themselves to reach an out of court settlement before 10am on Friday 14 April after reporting to their principals and legal reprsentatives

Welcoming the agremment ANC provincial secretary, Mcebisi Skwatsha said " We will montor these agreements with an eagle eye. We owe it to the communties to deliver "

ANC provincial spokesperson on Transport Leanard Ramatlakane said " We need to go beyond short term solutions. I am convinced that we can achieve a sustainable and integrated public transport system in our province. "
