ANC LOOSES A VETERAN

10 April 2000

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal regrets the untimely death of one of the most experienced veteran of our struggle, comrade Dilizintaba Mji.

The 77 year-old Cde Mji passed away on Sunday, 2 April 2000 at the hospital where he was struggling for his life after suffering the third stroke. During the time of his death he was living in Clemont Township, outside Pinetown.

He served the movement side by side with former ANC President Nelson Mandela under the leadership of the Comrade Chief Albert Luthuli. He studied at the University of Fort Hare where he became political active.

The valuable contribution of this revolutionary will be sadly missed within and outside our structures. The lost of our dear Comrade comes at a time when his leadership caliber is greatly needed as we are approaching the second local government elections.

His selfless dedication to better the lives of our people will serve to inspire us as we pick up his spear.

Tomorrow, Saturday 8 April 2000, the ANC leadership will accompany our father Comrade Mji to his last house. Among the comrades that will pay their last tribute to this stalwart will be the SACP chairperson and ANC PEC member Comrade Willies Mchunu. There will be some of the NEC members.

We convey our unconditional condolences to the bereaved family members and friends.

Lala ngokuthula Baba Mji!
Lala ngokuthula qabane!
