GAUTENG NNP LIST AN INSULT TO AFRICAN AND COLOURED NNP MEMBERS

The ANC's Western Cape leader, Mr Ebrahim Rasool, today expressed his concern that the NNP has no intention to transform itself from a white Afrikaner party to one which which is representative of all South Africans.

This is evident in their top ten candidates' list for Gauteng.

Mr Rasool further stated that:

" Although they call themselves the New National Party, they are still living in the past.

" Their Gauteng candidates list has only 1 black, 1 white female and dominated by 8 white Afrikaner males, in the top ten positions.

"This displays their lack of commitment and political will to being a party for all South Africans.

"The ANC calls on Marthinus van Schalkwyk to explain his party's reluctance to be more inclusive in displaying the demographics of our country."

"We also call on Mr Gerald Morkel, who is a member of the NNP Federal Council, to explain whether he supports the exclusion of a coloured person from his party's Gauteng list."

"It appears that Mr Morkel is simply a puppet on a string. He knows that he was put in place by the Broederbond clique, and therefore does not want to rock the boat."
